今回は、東京の伝統工芸である「切子」を使用したジュエリーネックレスをご紹介。ジュエリーサイズにカットした切子パーツをはめ込み作成しました。

Today, we would like to introduce a jewelry necklace crafted using the traditional Tokyo craft of “JAPANESE KIRIKO glass.” We have created this piece by embedding cut glass parts into the jewelry design. This unique silver accessory is a part of our collection that showcases the collaboration with traditional artisans from various regions, resulting in distinctive Japanese-inspired designs.
東京の伝統工芸「切子」
切子は東京の伝統的なガラス工芸の一つで、緻密な模様や美しい光沢で知られています。江戸時代から続き、古来から伝わる日本を代表する工芸品です。ガラスに模様を刻むことで光を反射・屈折させ、美しい輝きを生み出します。KANAMEの切子ネックレスはジュエリーサイズまで縮小したパーツに卓越した技術を詰め込みました。
切子パーツは伝統技術である手磨きによって仕上げられています。現在、仕上げの工程で伝統的な「手磨き」を行う職人は少なくなりました。「手磨き」は、道具を変えながらカットの一筋一筋を丁寧に磨き上げるため非常に効率は悪く、見た目以上に手間がかかります。しかし、薬品処理をしないため硝子の表面が肌荒れせず、エッジがありつつもつるりとした触り心地となるのが手磨きの魅力です。
手磨きによって磨いた表面は、まるで宝石のような輝きを放ち、ジュエリーと呼ぶに相応しい作品となります。
“JAPANESE Kiriko” is one of Tokyo’s traditional glass crafts, known for its intricate patterns and beautiful luster. It has been passed down since the Edo period and is a representative craft of Japan since ancient times. By carving patterns into glass, it reflects and refracts light, creating a beautiful brilliance. KANAME’s Edo Kiriko necklace packs exceptional craftsmanship into parts reduced to jewelry size.
The cut glass parts are finished with the traditional technique of hand polishing. Today, there are fewer artisans who perform the traditional “hand polishing” during the finishing process. “Hand polishing” is inefficient as each cut is meticulously polished with changing tools, requiring a considerable amount of time and effort. However, the charm of hand polishing lies in its smooth texture without skin irritation due to lack of chemical treatment, while retaining sharp edges. The surface polished by hand emits a jewel-like brilliance, making it suitable to be called a piece of jewelry.
伝統文様と装飾
切子パーツには伝統文様の「八角籠目」を採用。
八角形の枠の中に細かな格子状の模様が配置されているデザインで、模様は縦横に交差し均等に配置し幾何学的な美しさが上品な印象を与えます。
八角形は八方を守る」意味があり、広く幸運を呼び込むとされています。
このため、八角籠目の模様は家庭や建築物などに用いられ、幸せや繁栄を祈願するための装飾として重宝されています。
またシルバーの枠にはしめ縄を連想する装飾が施されています。
しめ縄は日本の伝統的な装飾品であり、祝いや行事などで使われます。主に神社や寺院で使われ、神聖な場所や特別な場面で門や建物の入口に飾られます。
しめ縄には結び目があり、家族や関係者の結びつきや絆を象徴し、長い間安全で幸せな暮らしを願う象徴として捉えられています。
切子ネックレスのデザインには日本の伝統を尊重し深い想いを込め、制作しています。
The KIRIKO glass parts feature the traditional pattern of “octagonal lattice,” where fine lattice patterns are arranged within octagonal frames. The design, with patterns intersecting vertically and horizontally in a symmetrical manner, exudes a geometric beauty that imparts an elegant impression. The octagon symbolizes “protection in all directions” and is believed to attract good fortune widely. Therefore, the octagonal lattice pattern is highly valued as a decoration for homes and buildings, often used to pray for happiness and prosperity.
Additionally, the silver frames are adorned with decorations reminiscent of “shimenawa,” a traditional Japanese ornament used in celebrations and ceremonies. Primarily seen in shrines and temples, shimenawa is hung at the entrances of sacred places and special occasions. With knots symbolizing the bond and connection among family members and loved ones, shimenawa represents the wish for a safe and blissful life.
The design of the cut glass necklace is created with deep respect for Japanese tradition and heartfelt sentiments.
